At SMS Equipment our Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Application Trainer supports the Autonomous Haul Truck business activities through specialized technical knowledge and equipment applications. Acting as a technical resource, the AHS Application Trainer contributes by providing a deeper understanding of equipment operation within the AHS mining environment, as well as equipment limitations and autonomous haulage best practices. This position is based in Acheson, AB.

The shift rotations for this position is 14x14 and 7x7. This position is remote on site, accommodations are available.

The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $150,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide the full range of training and software consulting services, including developing and training on the proper use of the FrontRunner® application.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth operational knowledge of the FrontRunner™ software system including operational knowledge of DISPATCH™.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures which inform software development and enhancements, to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and overall quality of software products and information systems.
  • Investigating and communicating operational issues to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and actively participating in the resolution process while maintaining communication with the Manager, AHS Operations Support
  • Instructing safe operational procedures to support equipment operators and staff.
  • Provide equipment support and follow-up as required in the areas of operational performance problems, technical issue resolution, and all relevant matters as required.
  • Write and catalog operational application and operator reports obtained from the field and offering equipment and software modification recommendations, adding to the future improvement of company equipment and practices.
  • Ensure all trainees are sufficiently trained in the safe procedures and practices applicable to their role in the operation of the FrontRunner® product and software system.
  • Under the guidance of the OEM, teaching specific FrontRunner® training courses relating to the equipment and software system supported by SMS and potentially developing other courses as required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 as well as a minimum of 3 years of equipment experience within the mining/construction environment in an operational setting. Additional qualifications include:

  • Must be a candidate for OEM certification.
  • Experience in the operation of FrontRunner®
  • Knowledge of mining practices including maintenance and haulage practices
  • Knowledge of the operation of Komatsu Ultra class haul trucks and support equipment with respect to how they interact within a mine are a crucial skill within the scope of the position.
  • Knowledge of GPS, surveying, and refueling.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate in a diverse environment with a significant focus on client and customer relations.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to demonstrate proficiency in software applications as required in the performance of job responsibilities. Microsoft Office, FrontRunner® and Dispatch™ are the programs of key concern.
  • Must possess good judgment and be able to consistently make intelligent decisions under pressure, have a positive attitude, and be dependable.
  • Experience in developing and teaching specific technical, application, and training courses relating to the equipment supported by SMS would be an asset.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is strongly preferred.
