Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Senior Painter will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Switchgear Assembly department. The Senior Painter will be responsible for painting raw steel platforms and various products and equipment. Current openings for day shift.

Essential Responsibilities

• Paint raw steel platforms and various products and equipment.
• Move platforms and various products using a overhead crane or forklift.
• Perform Wet Painting tasks in a safe and timely manner.
• On occasion be required to perform general labor and cleaning tasks as directed by your supervisor or leadperson.
• Keep up with routine maintenance procedures and cleaning equipment.
• Document inspections and paint usage in proper records.

Job Requirements - Core Competencies

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of experience of wet painting, sandblasting and surface preparation techniques.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Proficient with use of Airless and Conventional paint spaying systems with very minimal to no defects.
• Knowledge of wet painting and proper paint mixing technique (ex: two-part Epoxy primer and Polyurethane paint).

• Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
• Proficient with use of Steel Grit Blasting equipment and knowledge of basic maintenance.
• Ability to work independently or part of a small team and perform required tasks with little supervision.
• Ability to maintain a clean work area by picking up trash and sweeping the floor and disposing of paints and solvents in appropriate location. Throughout and at the end of the shift.
• Ability to perform and recognize a Commercial Grade Blast cleaning on steel.
• Ability to use a wet paint film thickness gauge and dry film thickness gauge.
• Ability to use a dial thickness gauge to achieve appropriate anchor profile of required blast.
• Ability to recognize and properly repair defects in paint finish (i.e. runs, holidays and orange peel).
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting functions on Airless and Conventional paint spaying equipment.
• Ability to follow directions, company operating procedure, safety rules and ISO requirements.
• Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts upon request. Frequently required to work a 6th day (Saturday) during your normal shift and required to work an occasional 7th day (Sunday).

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
