We are seeking a top-tier Gas Storage Operator with an ambitious spirit coupled with a strong business sense and customer service approach.

Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor, the Operator's responsibility will be to ensure reliability, availability, and Safe operation of all facilities. Additional responsibilities focus around Operational Excellence which include the development and execution of a SSOP's, JHA's, Safe Work agreements and following all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and objectives, completion of all core training, CMDS, AES Management System manuals and unit specific training manuals. This position works collaboratively with, Maintenance, Administration, Operational Support, Engineering, Marketing, HSSE, Compliance and Accounting.

All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation.

What Else You Get To Do:

  • Accountable for adhering to Operations and Site-Specific Operating Procedures and guidelines by carrying out routine operating activities.
  • Maintain familiarity with site Specific Emergency Response Plan, Site Environmental requirements, Pressure Equipment Integrity program, AER requirements and other codes and regulations that govern our business.
  • Ensure all government regulation, codes, including health, safety, the environment, and compliance with all ATCO Quality Management Systems, are adhered to.
  • Perform minor plant maintenance duties such as belt changes, filter changes, PSV removal and install.
  • Patrol and inspect both field and plant pipeline right-of-way ensuring all equipment and processes are reviewed, validated, and recorded. Complete production logs.
  • Provide feedback into the Engineering and Maintenance programs.
  • Ensure operating equipment is maintained in the condition to deliver full design duty (reliability) and is ready to run properly when required for operation (availability).
  • Constantly monitor and be alert to locating corrosion, gas leaks, freeze offs, hydrates and any other abnormalities and provides the necessary follow-up actions.
  • Make adjustments to product injection or retrieval as required. Operate assets to maximize profitability for the life of the organization. (life cycle profit).
  • Operational data collection and information gathering to effectively optimize operations going forward.
  • Adhere to ABSA, AER directives, and all internal integrity management systems requirements.
  • Work closely with the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) group to ensure compliance with government and company regulations.
  • Be aware of operational costs to ensure facilities are on budget as set out in the business plan.
  • Ensure commercial obligations to customers are understood and met.
  • Communicate progress against goals and development plans, and raise concerns to Supervisors or Managers as they relate to accomplishing goals so that resources, support, and/or coaching can be provided.
  • Chair various meetings i.e. Maintenance, Safety, Tailgate.

Who You Are:

  • Hold a High school diploma, Process Fire Equipment Certificate.
  • Minimum 2-4 years related experience with Gas Operations, or Industrial Gas plant.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable regulatory codes and practices.
  • Familiarity with the following, strategies for operating and maintaining equipment associated with pipelines, wells and storage formations.
  • Must have a valid Alberta driver's license (minimum class 5).
  • Trades tickets will be beneficial in this role - Gas Plant Operator Certificate and / or Power Engineering certificate.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with general knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to adapt to changing situations and develop creative and innovative ways to resolve issues.
