The Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill a permanent position of Cost Analyst in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, NS. As a member of the Operations Finance team supporting the Lingan and Point Aconi Generating Stations, the Cost Analyst will be responsible for the following:


Key elements of this role include:

  • Preparing invoices for payment;
  • Processing requisitions, liaising with Accounts Payable, Procurement and other internal teams as required;
  • Tracking and monitoring annual plant overhaul spend to budget/forecast;
  • Providing accounting for the monthly, quarterly and yearly closes;
  • Providing monthly reconciliations;
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts;
  • Performing project and operational tasks with good overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines;

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • As the ideal candidate, you have a recognized Accounting/Business Certificate or degree, and a minimum 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • You have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software.
  • You have strong organizational skills, communication skills, are detail oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines.
  • You can work well both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. A working knowledge of Oracle Financial System, Power Plan and PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
