SAIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.
CDARI is working with Women Building Futures to deliver a 17 week program focused on creating opportunities for Women to get introductory trades training and life skills to then move into employment. We will be delivering various courses on SAIT Main Campus in 2025 and are seeking an instructor to teach one week of Plumbing and one week of Steamfitting. Ideally we are looking for an instructor to teach both of these sections, but the deliveries may be shared among instructors if neccesary.
Topics & lab activities include:
- Review the history of the steamfitting/pipefitting/plumbing trade, qualifications required and the type of work involved
- Describe the types and sizes of pipe, flanges and fittings used in the steamfitting/pipefitting trade
- Recognize foundational knowledge/concepts related to steam fitting/pipefitting/plumbing
- Review and demonstrate methods and materials used when joining pipe
- Measure, mark and cut various pipe
- Operate oxy-acetylene touch and MIG welding
- Additional Stemfitting/Plumbing content as required

The Role:
Present lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance
Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
Attend all SAIT training as required
Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
Be an active and engaged member of the School
Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
All other duties as required for the position
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Journeyperson in a variety of installation and service environments is desired
Minimum Alberta Journeyperson Certificate and Red Seal in Steamfitting and/or plumbing
Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
Comfortable speaking to the public
Positive & respectful attitude
Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
Excellent communication skills
Ability to organize and present written information
Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom
Desired:
Previous teaching experience
Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
