The Architectural Technologist is responsible for assisting in the production of working and contract drawings for the construction of new homes.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Set Job Files
  • Prepare plot plans
  • Make job specific changes to working drawings
  • Liaise with Construction team and or trades on questions or concerns with drawings
  • Distribute construction documents to sales estimating, construction and trade partners
  • Resolve on-site construction issues as they arise
  • Complete design changes in CAD/Revit models
  • Produce and maintain tender drawings
  • Assists in the detailed design process and coordinates design information;
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to address issues that arise during construction and coordinate recurring issues and areas of improvement with the internal team in the interest of eliminating issues through future design drawings advancement;
  • Conducts periodic site reviews for conformity to plans, applicable codes and Minto standards, in coordination with Construction and Warranty departments;
  • Distribute, track & report on milestone deliverables (i.e. 25% working drawing set, 50% permit set, etc.);
  • Submits site plans and proposals to city officials for zoning & building permit approval;
  • Drafts site plan proposals for designated areas of the city as required;
  • Coordinates with external consultants, manufacturers and trades to produce and refine construction drawings and / or contract documents for various low- rise housing typologies
  • Coordinates truss, floor, mechanical, structural engineering drawings
  • Works with suppliers and manufacturers in sourcing new and innovative materials, systems & products;
  • Maintains project filing system with current and up to date contract documents;
  • Assists in compiling and coordinating drawings and specifications in accordance with the tender documents;
  • Assists in the pricing preparation of construction tender documents and specifications by subcontractors;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, bylaws, standards, and regulations;
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings;
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices; and
  • Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, as requested by management.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the ABC (Alberta Building Code)
  • Knowledge of residential low-rise buildings and of mixed use residential mid-rise and high-rise building systems/assemblies and construction methodologies
  • AutoCAD (2012 or more recent)
  • Revit

Education: College Diploma in Architectural Technician or Technology is preferred or equivalent

Experience: A minimum of two to three (2-3) years of previous architectural experience. Site and drafting experience will be considered an asset.

Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook
  • Microsoft Project is an asset
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat are an asset
  • Knowledge of Energy Star and LEED is an asset
