THE OPPORTUNITY

Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. ("Triton") is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Boat Operator to join a well-established team of environmental professionals.

This role can be based in Fort McMurray, Calgary, or Edmonton, AB. The successful candidate will work as part of a field team, reporting to the project office. Transportation will be provided from Calgary, Edmonton, or Fort McMurray to the work site.

This position is targeted to start in the upcoming 2025 spring season. The exact start date is unknown at this time and could occur anytime during April 2025 or May 2025. The position will end later this fall season, approximately the end of October 2025. However, there is a possibility that full‑time, permanent work could be made available after the work term date.

Responsibilities will include a variety of tasks, including:

  • Operation of work boats and safety boats in a safe and capable manner;
  • Conducting basic maintenance and safety inspections of work boats and other project equipment;
  • Monitoring of bird activities and manual hazing of non-impacted birds, as well as reporting of other incidental wildlife observations (e.g., coyotes, wolves, bears, and ungulates); and
  • Assisting with the deployment, inspection, and maintenance of bird deterrent systems.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence
  • Experience operating a variety of vessels
  • Experience implementing safe operating procedures, including crew safety briefings and instructions to passengers and crew members
  • Experience with basic emergency response, lifesaving, rescue, and survival skills
  • Solid understanding of small engines and ability to perform basic mechanical diagnostics and maintenance
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Airboat operations and/or certification is an asset
  • Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS; formerly MED A3) certification is an asset
  • UTV operations and certification is an asset
  • Class 5 Operator's Licence

SCHEDULE

This position will entail working in the field, doing shift rotational work.

The schedule is determined by project hiring needs and could be 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, 12 hrs daily (overtime will be paid as per AB employment standards).

Camp stay accommodations will be provided by the employer.
