WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Director, Procurement and Supply Chain drives transformational change across the function at the Calgary Airport Authority. The Director is responsible for the creation and implementation of effective strategies to increase the maturity of procurement and supply chain practices across the organization, support continuous improvement and build a results-oriented and customer-focused culture exemplified by a high-performance team. Ultimately, the role will lead a group of proactive experts and be considered a value-add business partner to the organization.

The Director has broad oversight of all aspects of procurement and supply chain operations, including services related to purchasing, tendering, and contracting of goods & services, warehousing and inventory management. As this position is the most senior level in procurement and supply chain management within the organization, the Director is responsible for clearly articulating the strategy, process, and execution plan and providing inspiring leadership to their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision to enhance performance, deliver business value, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead and guide procurement, stores operations, asset and inventory management, and policy compliance.
  • Oversee warehouse operations, aiming to optimize and consolidate where possible.
  • Lead negotiations and decision-making for large contracts, ensuring quality, cost control, and process improvement.
  • Support the creation and execution of contracts, collaborating with legal counsel on complex agreements.
  • Manage risks related to commercial contracts, bonding, and insurance.
  • Ensure technology meets team needs and aligns with the organization's technology strategy.
  • Identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities to enhance value.
  • Develop and manage annual capital and operating budgets.
  • Assess and adjust team structure as needed.
  • Invest in staff development and create opportunities for growth.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, performance, and positive union relationships.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration;
  • Relevant procurement and/or supply chain designation (SCMP, CPP) is an asset.
  • At least 8-12 years of supply chain experience, with at least 5 of those years in a strategic leadership role;
  • Previous experience leading through change and transformation;
  • Advanced knowledge of and broad experience across the procurement and supply chain disciplines: procurement, materials management, RFP development, negotiation, shipping/storage and logistics, materials control change, and contract formation/management;
  • Proven experience in developing and leading high performance teams;
  • Extensive knowledge of contract law and its applications as it relates to procurement;
  • Experience leading in a unionized environment is an asset;
  • Experience leading procurement and supply chain initiatives in the construction industry would be an asset.
  • A proactive business partner with the ability to deliver service excellence in close collaboration with other business groups;
  • Demonstrated ability to wield influence without relying on authority;
  • A progressive and open-minded strategist who is highly results oriented;
  • Exhibits strong business acumen, particularly fiscal savvy with a concern for the bottom line;
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills;
  • Professional and polished demeanor with the ability to be impactful at Board and c-levels;
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and champion the use of technology in supply chain management;
  • A seasoned leader who is committed to building capacity in people;
  • Ability to drive to results through excellent communication skills and streamlined decision making;
  • Understands and effectively communicates the vision and drivers behind strategy in ways that engage and align colleagues and project partners;
  • Develops and maintains productive strategic relationships with all key external and internal stakeholders;
  • A decisive, collaborative change agent who asks, and is comfortable being asked, the right questions to achieve shared accountability; and
  • Understands the complexity of operating in an ever-changing multi-stakeholder environment.

WHAT ELSE

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a restricted area identification card (RAIC).
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work model with a combination of in-office and remote work.
