Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Engineer to contribute to the enhancement of the reliability and operational readiness of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES) by focusing on identified and emerging reliability risks of existing and commissioning transmission and generation assets.
Reporting to the Manager, Operations Planning, you will analyze events impacting system reliability and ensure that real-time observances are shared and addressed to allow effective operation of the AIES. You will analysis notable events for reliability issues, support market participants' compliance activities, and manage internal and external stakeholder communication. You will contribute to the Event Analysis team in making observations and draw learnings from real time events that will serve as risk inputs to operational readiness activities.

Accountabilities include:
Analyze reliability concerns in collaboration with generation and transmission facility owners.
Propose and monitor mitigations to resolve system performance issues.
Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
Act as subject matter expert during compliance investigations.
Review functional specifications and commissioning plans.
Provide technical support during design and construction and commissioning phases in the connection of new facilities.
Provide technical support, training, and guidance to internal and external staff.
Identify and resolve operational deficiencies of generation equipment.
Risk identification/mitigation of broader power system risks.
Develop tools to enhance system monitoring for event analysis
What you'll bring to us:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
Professional Engineer Accreditation (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
7+ years of electric power industry experience, with solid technical knowledge in power system operations.
Critical awareness of reliability issues facing today's grid as well as future challenges.
In depth understanding of Grid & Market Operations and/or Transmission Planning.
In depth understanding of ARS/ISO Rules and the Alberta electricity industry framework.
Extensive skills in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions.
Proven ability to solve highly complex engineering problems with only a defined objective and with a minimally defined scope in a high conflict environment.
Provide subject matter expertise to support teams across the AESO including real time operations and coordination, connection and system projects, and operational engineering
