SAIT’s School of Manufacturing, Automation & Transportation provides the skills-based training and development to prepare students for a career in Alberta's rapidly growing oil and gas, transportation, manufacturing and automation sectors. We provide applied learning in action through our trades and technology programs.

The Opportunity

We are currently accepting applications for a motivated full-time Instructor to join our School of Transportation team. This position will teach in the Ironworker and Crane programs on a full-time basis at our Point Trotter Campus in Southeast Calgary.

Reporting to the Academic Chair, the Instructor is accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with hands-on learning. In addition, you will work with students and faculty by attending recruitment initiatives and school events and maintain strong industry relationships. You enjoy a challenge, possess strong technical skills and are an excellent communicator who works well in a collaborative team environment.

The Role

    • Instruct high level courses to mature learners
    • Prepare and present lectures and labs
    • Develop course outlines, profiles and curriculum
    • Participate in curriculum and program reviews
    • Maintain a safe work environment and keep records of grades, FLHA’s and lift procedures
    • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
    • Evaluate student progress and achievement
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
    • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors
    • Oversee lifting and hoisting operations in our yard
    • Promote our program through open house, try-a-trades and promotional events as needed
    • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students

Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum 5 years experience in crane industry
    • Must hold a Journeyperson and Red Seal Certificate as a Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator – Tower Crane
    • Red Seal Certificate as a Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator – Mobile Crane is preferred
    • Secondary Red Seal or Alberta Journeyperson ticket in Ironworking or Welding considered a major asset
    • Prior teaching experience is an asset, formal teaching education is an asset
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge & Skills

    • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Strong time management and organizational skills
    • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
    • Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
    • Possess a positive, respectful attitude, and a high commitment to student success and collaboration

Salary range: $85,388 - $91,482.00
Hours Per Week: 37.5
