Role Overview McElhanney Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Bridge Engineer to join our growing team in Alberta. In this role, you will be working as part of our Calgary group focusing on delivering bridge and bridge-sized culvert work related to highways, rural roadways and resource roads. This will be a role that really puts you in the driver’s seat of managing projects, interfacing with clients and working on a diversity of technical projects while being supported by an established team of bridge engineers located across BC and Alberta.
As a Bridge Engineer you will have 5 to 15 years of professional experience, while being a strong team player with high productivity and excellent attention to detail. Aside from your technical skills, you’ll also have the opportunity to leverage your established contacts and local experience to further build out the business of bridges with our Calgary team!
Responsibilities
Prepare and review structural and hydraulic (where applicable) design calculations of highway bridges, pedestrian bridges, railroad bridges, temporary resource bridges, retaining walls, overhead light standards and bridge-sized culverts
Complete hydrotechnical analyses of watercourse crossings and their corresponding drainage basins using approved Alberta Transportation methodologies
Prepare conceptual, design and contract costs estimates
Coordinate with various sub-consultants and project stakeholders
Assist in the preparation and approval of, tender and contract documents
Complete field inspections and reporting to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed
Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer
Work with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution plus 5 to 15 years’ experience in a similar role.
Registration in good standing as a P. Eng. in Alberta and be eligible for registration in British Columbia.
Knowledge & experience with bridge design related to CAN/CSA S6, and its application to bridge projects across highway, rural road and resource projects.
Proficiency in the application of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MIDAS and CSiBridge related to bridge design work is considered an asset.
High productivity, attention to detail, effective verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team environment.
Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals
Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice
