THE OPPORTUNITY


Triton Environmental Consultants Ltd. ("Triton") is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Field Biologist, to join a well-established team of environmental professionals.

This role can be based in Fort McMurray, Calgary, or Edmonton, AB. The successful candidate will work as part of a field team, reporting to the project office. Transportation will be provided from Calgary, Edmonton, or Fort McMurray to the work site.

This position is targeted to start in the upcoming 2025 spring season. The exact start date is unknown at this time and could occur anytime during April 2025 or May 2025. The position will end later this fall, approximately the end of October 2025. However, there is a possibility that full‑time, permanent work could be made available after the work term.

Responsibilities will include a variety of tasks, including:

  • Bird identification;
  • Data collection;
  • Daily data entry and reporting;
  • Manual hazing of birds;
  • Deployment and maintenance of bird deterrent infrastructure;
  • Assessment of deterrents and recommendations to prevent habituation;
  • Wildlife identification; and
  • Bird sweeps, wildlife hazing, and other wildlife programs, as required.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Post-secondary education (degree or technical diploma) in biology, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • Ability to work long days in the field and handle physically demanding work
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required for data collection and entry
  • Experience in bird identification considered an asset
  • Positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment essential
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

SCHEDULE

This position will entail working in the field, doing shift rotational work.

The schedule is determined by project hiring needs and could be 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, 12 hrs daily (overtime will be paid as per AB employment standards).
