PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Manager Compensation role is accountable for the day-to-day administration, analysis of compensation data and interpretation of policies and practices. The individual will be responsible for end-to-end compensation practices such as: job evaluation, performing competitive market analyses and providing recommendations to various stakeholders relating to our non-union employee population, including incentive and equity pay programs that align with CPKC's total rewards strategy.

Reporting to the Director, Compensation and working with a team of professionals, the Manager Compensation will be a key player in the support of our compensation strategy.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead a team of compensation professionals supporting offerings across our North American railroad network (Canada, United States and Mexico), working in a high-performance culture
  • Provide leadership and guidance on compensation-related matters including day-to-day administrative of shared inboxes, job evaluations, salary recommendations, equity plan management, market analysis and benchmarking to ensure our compensation offerings are competitive and aligned with industry standards
  • Champion the annual compensation review process including salary planning, incentive awards, equity grants, compensation system updates and communication
  • Analyze compensation data and trends and make informed recommendations for improvements and adjustments to compensation plan elements
  • Collaborate and build positive relationships with various internal & external stakeholders to deliver compensation strategies that support business objectives
  • Partner with HR data team to ensure accurate and timely administration of compensation plans within current systems (i.e. SAP, SuccessFactors, Shareworks)
  • Support the preparation of Company public disclosure materials and administration of executive compensation programs
  • Support special projects as needed including in-country total rewards design and pay equity
  • Monitor compliance with legislation and compensation policy, and documents changes to existing policies

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Finance or other relevant fields
  • Minimum 5-7 years in a compensation role or 7+ years of work experience in HR or related role
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CPP) designation is an asset
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience and capacity to mentor and grow a team
  • Proficient in SAP, SAP Ad-hoc Query, Spinifex and Advanced skill in MS Office - Excel and PowerPoint. SuccessFactors experience is an asset
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, judgement and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of long-term incentive design and administration, performance-based compensation systems (SuccessFactors), and market-based pay structures
  • A demonstrable drive to understand and solve complex problems
  • Solution focused - take initiative, enjoy the challenge of problem solving
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, respect for deadlines with accurate/quality results, are a must
  • Experience with total rewards programs and employment regulations in Canada, United States and Mexico is an asset
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle changing competing priorities and fluctuating workloads

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
