The Opportunity
Our Materials & Coatings Engineering team within TC Energy's Pipe Integrity Engineering Services department is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Manager, Materials & Coatings Engineering, this role will develop strategies that ensure our pipeline materials meet our design needs and specifications. You will aid in developing and maintaining TC Energy's specifications and standards, evaluating and auditing manufacturers and assessing materials for suitability of use in our pipeline system.
What you'll do
Collaboration: Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Projects, and other Engineering teams to ensure the specification and manufacture of high-quality materials.
Project Support: Through specifications and standards, identify and select appropriate materials based on project requirements, ensuring they meet quality, cost and performance standards.
Supplier Management: Evaluate and manage the technical capabilities of suppliers to ensure they provide materials that meet the required specifications and quality standards.
Quality Assurance: Develop and implement engineering quality control processes and methods to ensure materials meet the necessary standards and specifications. Perform site inspections and audits when required.
Technical Support: Provide technical support to other teams, including troubleshooting material-related issues, performing materials RCAs, and recommending solutions.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of material reviews, test results, and quality control processes records.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance material quality and efficiency.
Provide oversight to projects ensuring that designs are fit-for-purpose, demonstrated to meet expectations for safety, cost, quality, and performance, and conform with regulations, industry standards and company specifications
Serve as Technical Lead to assigned working teams or special initiatives
Provide review oversight, coaching and mentorship to junior members of the team
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering degree
Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing
10 - 15 years' experience in materials evaluation and selection, manufacturer evaluation, audit and inspection.
Ability to work and travel in North America and to manufacturing locations overseas
Proven knowledge of natural gas pipelines and station design codes and standards (CSA Z662, CSA Z245.xx, ASME B31, API 5L, API 6D etc)
Proven experience in materials engineering, quality assurance, or a related role
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong knowledge of material properties, testing methods, and quality control processes
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with asset life cycle management
Proven Management of Change process experience and use of evaluation practices and tools required to successfully complete a change
Proficient with process incident root-cause analyses and addressing corrective actions
Proficient in facture and materials testing analysis,
Ability to think analytically, perform analysis, and support recommendations
This position requires candidates to:
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or audits (estimated up to 15% of work schedule)
