About this opportunity:
This position will work in collaboration with Operations and other members of the asset team to optimize production and economic performance of heavy oil assets. This critical role contributes to the achievement of Cenovus's production goals by managing wells and assets focusing on the sandface to the wellhead, working with reservoir/development engineers, geosciences, operations engineering, and field operations to ensure well performance is safely optimized. This role is accountable for improving well performance of producing wells in Cenovus's Primary Conventional Heavy Oil (CHO) portfolio and ensuring value accretive decisions are made with respect to each well on a continual basis.
This role will require a minimum of 2 field visits per year to support understanding of assets and building collaborative relationships with field personnel.
What you'll do:
Develop downhole optimization plans annually for each core area as assigned, working with other subsurface teams, operations and field operations to rank opportunities
Lead monthly reviews of operating income by well, ensuring that realized netback price changes drive decision making with respect to marginal well startups or shut ins
Select and design artificial lift for new and existing wells
Conduct production reporting and near-term production forecasting/overwrites for assigned assets
Work closely with reservoir engineers and well delivery teams to plan and start up new drills in the CHO capital spend to meet the expectations in the long range plan
Initiate and drive look backs on new well startups, working closely with subsurface teams to continually improve development through data acquisition, lab analysis and empirical evaluations
Identify suitable well opportunities to generate scope for annual gas management programs
Complete competitor analysis reviews annually across assigned assets in the Lloydminster Heavy Oil block with respect to new well completion design, new well work over frequency and other downhole production engineering related activities for all major peers
Drive and support innovation, continuous improvement and creativity within the team
Ensure consistency in technical best practices, developing and following standards
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum preferred
Membership in APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required
4+ years of experience is required
Preference for Conventional Heavy Oil or SAGD experience, Conventional experience also considered
Data management and analytics skills are an asset
Established skills in either Reservoir/Development engineering, Production Engineering or Facilities Engineering with depth of knowledge of multiple subsurface subject areas
Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to a diverse audience
