Reporting to the Sr. Supervisor of Maintenance / Growth Projects, the Project Engineer will oversee Growth and/or Maintenance capital construction projects for Gibson Energy, including but not limited to the following:

  • Projects at Gibson's facilities in Hardisty, Edmonton and Moose Jaw. These projects may include both brown and greenfield as determined by the opportunity.
  • Interface management with Gibson industrial partners and third parties for approvals and timely execution.
  • Infrastructure and regulatory scope such as: Tie-ins and shutdown planning, Utilities, Regulatory and Permits.
  • Coordination of timely deliverables with our engineering contractors, including but not limited to design documents, procurement documents, expediting activities for deliveries.
  • Interface management with construction teams and field operations.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Manages all aspects of assigned projects to ensure excellence in cost, schedule, technical delivery, and EH&S performance.
  • Ensures smooth integration of project activities through all project phases from initiation, through design, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
  • Ensures that all internal and external stakeholders have adequate opportunity to provide input, comments, and approvals.
  • Minimizes risks through early identification, planning, and proactive project management practices.
  • Ensures effective handling of regulatory requirements for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates, challenges, and directs the project execution and technical decisions of the Engineering Contractor assigned to the projects.
  • Ensures all projects are executed in compliance with the applicable regulations and standards and executed in compliance with Gibson Energy's Asset Delivery Framework (ADF).
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of work processes in support of Gibson Energy's Operations Management System (OMS).
  • Develops and fosters strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Engineering and APEGA membership is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in development, design and construction of heavy oil upgrading facilities, major crude oil terminals and pipelines, NGL/refined product storage and handling facilities, and rail and truck load/offload racks and associated measurement facilities.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of strategies that can be deployed within areas of engineering design and project management.
  • Applies working knowledge of the theories and concepts in other disciplines.
  • Interprets internal or external issues and recommends solutions/best practices.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions.
  • Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
  • Acts as a resource for team members with less experience; may lead teams or projects with broad visibility.
  • Guides others in resolving complex issues in specialized area based on existing solutions and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Office based position with travel to project site locations required 10-20% of the time.
  • When employees are outside of the office, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
