About this opportunity:

The Foster Creek Geological Development team is looking for a motivated, curious Senior Geologist to join our team. Reporting to the Manager, Foster Creek Geological Development, the selected individual will be accountable to work in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure reservoir development plans are optimized to meet Cenovus business needs, enable the successful execution of our development plans, and support our long-term strategy.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with integrated subsurface, development, and well delivery teams to plan annual resource delineation and appraisal of drilling programs

  • Apply geological data such as wireline logs, image logs, core descriptions, and petrophysical information to support resource and reserves evaluations

  • Work closely with geomodellers and geophysicists to build and refine geomodels and geological maps

  • Support the integration of surface and subsurface development to ensure optimal development layouts

  • Contribute to appraising and delineating potential resources for future thermal development projects, along with updating future pad layouts and resource estimates annually to support the Long-Range Outlook process

  • Collaborate with reservoir development engineering and asset development teams to guide new well pads through the stage gate process and provide inputs into engineering design and development decisions

  • Ensure consistency in development practices and foster effective communication across multidisciplinary teams

  • Support workflow optimization projects aimed at improving geoscience and reservoir engineering workflows and outputs, as well as prepare documentation and presentations for technical reviews, lookbacks, and knowledge sharing sessions

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Professional Geoscientist with APEGA accreditation and eligibility for APEGS accreditation

  • 8+ years of geoscience experience, with preference for candidates with SAGD (Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage) thermal development experience

  • Strong experience in project management and/or asset development

  • Experience using Petrel software is considered an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as consistently demonstrating the values of Cenovus in all interactions and activities
