Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Geotechnical team, based in the Calgary, AB office. Reporting to the Geotechnical Discipline Manager, the successful applicant will be joining a well-established and diverse engineering group developing and executing diverse and challenging projects across Western Canada.

Working closely with geotechnical engineers and project managers with diverse areas of expertise, the successful candidate will support pursuit leads and proposal developments, project execution, geotechnical site investigations, engineering analysis, prepare geotechnical engineering reports, including providing project oversight from the design to construction phases of projects. The successful individual will also have significant project management experience providing financial leadership on projects and ensure projects deliverables are completed timely for the clients. The current assignment will be mainly geotechnical projects in and around, but not limited to, Calgary and other areas of Alberta (some regional travel may be required).

  • Problem-solving client's geotechnical concerns
  • Leads and coordinates all efforts to execute assigned projects
  • Accountability for project financial results
  • Accountability for quality of product including reporting and construction reviews
  • Prepares invoicing, responsible for collections and updating backlog reports
  • Directs, coaches and assigns work to junior/intermediate staff assigned to projects and coordinates resource planning with the Geotechnical Discipline Manager
  • Collaborates with the team management for project, financial, and people coordination
  • Facilitates client meetings, participates in conceptual and problem-solving discussions
  • Participates in regular Business Development activities
  • Lead proposal writing effort including coordinating and coaching others
  • Coaching others in design & report writing, or oversight of junior engineers preparing drafts

What your experience looks like

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geological/geotechnical engineering
  • Master's degree in geotechnical engineering is an asset
  • Professional license with APEGA
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of relevant Geotechnical engineering experience
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience
  • Experience related to settlement estimations, slope stability analysis, shallow and deep foundations designs, pile designs, retaining wall designs, liquefaction assessments, drainage designs.
  • Some experience with seismic designs and analysis will be an asset
  • The ability to coordinate, mentor, and assign work to junior staff
  • Ability to interface and communicate with both our internal and external clients
  • Excellent organizing, interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills using word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics applications such as MS Word, Excel and AutoCAD
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with project development and execution
  • Ability to meet deadlines, well organized and able to work under pressure
  • Must possess valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle to travel to job sites
