About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Senior Geologist, Geological Optimization based in Calgary.

Reporting to the Manager, Geological Optimization, the Senior Geologist, Geological Optimization has the primary responsibility to work in a multi-disciplinary team that is focused on continuously optimizing SAGD pads currently operating in thermal assets across Saskatchewan.

What you'll do:

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of Production and Reservoir Engineers to troubleshoot completions, production/steam trends and operating pressures to find solutions for enhancing production and minimizing SOR.

  • Conduct yearly resource assessments using integrated datasets that support production forecast updates over the life cycle of a SAGD pad.

  • Generate new insights and opportunities to develop and access resource in and around producing pads, while progressing and supporting these opportunities with technical reviews, regulatory, well planning and production.

  • Responsible for the planning and interpretation of yearly observation well programs as they pertain to SAGD operations; including but not limited to cased hole logging (i.e., RST), piezometers, thermocouples, and steam chamber cores.

  • Work closely with Geophysicists to interpret 4D seismic to understand vertical and lateral steam chamber conformance and apply findings back to Oilsands Development teams to influence geomodels and future pad/well placement.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Professional Geoscientist, accredited with APEGA and/or APEGS

  • 8+ years of geoscience experience in a variety of subsurface roles

  • Preference for SAGD thermal or enhance oil recovery experience

  • Experience in horizontal well planning and execution will be considered an asset

  • Models the values of Cenovus in all interactions and activities

  • Strong experience in project management or asset development

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience/capability in decision analysis and economic evaluation
