About this opportunity:
Cenovus’s Conventional Heavy Oil Team is seeking for a Senior Production Engineer based in our Calgary office.
This critical role contributes to the achievement of Cenovus’s ESG and production goals by coordinating the CHO Gas Management emission reduction program, serving as an SME in the CHO emissions reduction space, and managing a collection of wells and assets focusing on the sandface to the wellhead, working with reservoir/development engineers, geosciences, operations engineering, and field operations to ensure well performance is improved. The balance of these duties is driven by the intensity of the Gas Management program in any given year. This role is accountable for achieving CHO’s yearly and multiyear emissions reduction goals as well as enhancing well performance for all producing wells in Cenovus’s Primary Conventional Heavy Oil portfolio and ensuring value accretive decisions are made with respect to each well on a continual basis.
When overseeing emissions reduction projects, this position will work in collaboration with the Air Emissions team, Operations Engineering, Projects Engineering, and stakeholders within the business unit to ensure program success by coordinating the yearly scope of emissions abatement projects.
When overseeing new drills, this position will work in collaboration with Operations and other members of the asset team to optimize well delivery. Additionally, the successful candidate will optimize profitability of wells and core areas and leverage other subsurface teams in driving base production optimization activities.
This role may also closely collaborate with EOR Production Engineering counterparts as a development pathway and to support absence coverage. This role will require a minimum of 2 field visits per year to support understanding of assets and building collaborative relationships with field personnel.
What you’ll do:
Optimize Primary Conventional Heavy Oil wells to maximize profitability and manage long-term resource recovery through PCP design, recompletions, well optimization, operating strategies, and workovers/cleanouts
Collaborate with subsurface teams, operations engineering, and field operations to drive both short and long-term improvements from a subsurface focus
Identify and generate scope for annual gas management programs
Develop and implement workover strategies
Develop downhole optimization plans annually for each core area, collaborating with other teams to prioritize opportunities
Lead monthly reviews of operating income by well, ensuring data-driven decisions for well startups or shut-ins
Manage artificial lift selection and design for new and existing wells
Handle production reporting and near-term production forecasting for assigned assets
Drive continuous improvement through data acquisition, lab analysis, and empirical evaluations
Conduct annual competitor analysis reviews for well completion design, workover frequency, and other production engineering activities
Emissions Reduction:
Responsible to coordinate the execution of the annual Gas Management program consisting of individual emissions abatement projects such as compressors, combustors, etc. (Program and Project Management)
Responsible for asset level oversight of the emissions profile focusing on (but not limited to) methane emissions
Responsible for regular data management and reporting of CHO emissions and program progress reporting data
Serves as the data steward for the CHO emissions data centralization and automation efforts
Serves as business unit SME for Alberta and Saskatchewan emission regulations in collaboration with the corporate regulatory and air emissions teams
Responsible for business unit level Carbon Credit application submission in collaboration with corporate functions
Collaborate with corporate teams to design and manage CHO’s multi-year plan towards the Methane Milestone and emission targets
Provides advisory to team members in designing gas management strategies for their assets
Review and evaluation of vendor emissions reduction offerings
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Membership in APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization
8+ years of experience
Knowledge of emissions regulations (D60, PNG36, etc.)
Excellent project management and collaborator coordination skills
Preference for Conventional Heavy Oil or SAGD experience
Established skills in Reservoir/Development Engineering, Production Engineering or Facilities Engineering
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and influence others without authority
Clear and concise communication of complex information to diverse audiences
