About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join the Reservoir Services group within the Thermal Reservoir Engineering team located in our Calgary office.

The Reservoir Services team is responsible for providing reservoir engineering, geomechanics and simulation expertise along with providing tools and guidance on their use to the organization. Working in the Reservoir Services team, The Senior Reservoir Engineer will be accountable for supporting new technical initiatives to enhance resource development and providing reservoir engineering and geomechanics support to the Thermal Reservoir Engineering teams and other business units within Cenovus as required.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for reservoir and geomechanics modeling of the steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and other oil and gas recovery processes

  • Construct simulation models for simulation of thermal and non-thermal recovery processes

  • Construct 3D mechanical earth models for geomechanical and coupled flow and geomechanical simulations

  • Design and coordinate laboratory and field tests to continuously improve simulation functionality and inputs

  • Build and coordinate surveillance programs to improve our understanding of and ability to model geomechanics

  • Accountable for diagnostic fracture injection test (DFIT) design, execution and interpretation along with other types of well test

  • Data gathering including well logging, core testing program design and monitoring data acquisition through various test operations

  • Advanced log processing and interpretation (image logs, NMR, sonic logs, etc.)

  • Petrophysical analysis and interpretation

  • Coordinate the adoption of standardized workflows and simulation approaches across all CVE assets, providing support and training as necessary

  • Coordination with drilling and completions and asset teams on the design and execution of hydraulic fracturing projects

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accredited with APEGA or APEGS

  • A minimum of 8+ years of oil & gas industry experience

  • Extensive knowledge of geomechanics

  • Extensive experience in DFIT and hydraulic fracture design

  • Validated experience in geomechanics and reservoir simulation (experience with Techlog, Petrel, Intersect and Visage an asset)

  • Demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts quickly and drive for continuous improvement

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, organization, and time management skills
