The purpose of the Innovation Operations Department is to ensure safe, reliable, and effective operations at both our Centre for Applied Research (CAR) and Centre for Performance Applications (CPA) sites while providing essential support to the delivery of the Innovation priorities and the realization of NOVA Chemicals' Vision. We achieve this through teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

We are seeking a Shipping and Receiving Technician to join our Material Handling team. This team plays a critical role in our success by managing supplies, material movement, storage and inventory, and the safe transport and receipt of samples, chemicals, equipment and other items to and from our facilities. As a member of this team, you will work with a variety of individuals at both CAR and CPA in a vital support role to their routine and non-routine needs.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Safely handle large materials (i.e., 600 kg containers) as well as lab samples.
  • Effectively manage inventory, ensuring accuracy and tracking data is processed in a timely manner.
  • Receive all incoming material, apply barcodes and communicate to applicable individuals.
  • Organize and dispose expired or no longer needed materials.
  • Maintain and update databases/inventory management systems (i.e., Barcode).
  • Process transportation (TDG) requests.
  • Order and maintain minimum levels of lab and office supplies.
  • Provide input into the development of safe standard operating procedures and provide updates and improvements to existing processes.
  • Move materials within a warehouse environment with the use of a 1600 kg counterbalance forklift and/or manual and power pallet jacks.
  • Regularly interact with customers and shipping companies/couriers.
  • Safely package materials for shipping purposes.
  • Fill out customs compliance documentation for cross border shipments.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Minimum High School diploma with 4-5 years direct materials handling and shipping/receiving experience
  • Supply Chain Management certification would be an advantage
  • Strong safety mindset and experience with writing and reviewing procedures
  • Forklift certification
  • TDG certification
  • Direct shipping / receiving experience
  • Warehouse and inventory management experience
  • Computerized inventory management and tracking systems experience
  • Good attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong customer interaction skills
  • Knowledge and practical experience with customs compliance processes is an asset

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will NOT be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
