The successful candidate will provide front-line technical support to Maintenance and Operations personnel. You will be responsible for facility changes including interpreting codes and regulations, performing upfront scoping, developing construction work packages, and managing risk according to the Cenovus management of change (MOC) process. Overall, this role offers a comprehensive learning experience, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application, and equipping you with the skills and expertise needed to excel in your academic and professional careers.

This role is based at a camp facility and involves a rotational shift schedule with fly-in, fly-out arrangements. The primary flight hubs for this position are in Calgary and Edmonton.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary contact for on-site technical support.

  • Provide engineering expertise for facility changes and equipment installations/repairs.

  • Design piping and mechanical systems according to industry standards and codes.

  • Fulfill corporate integrity program functions.

  • Scope day-to-day mechanical work and support larger projects through field verifications, data gathering, and walk-downs.

  • Generate mechanical engineering work packages.

  • Create and modify engineering drawings and develop standardized designs for repeatable projects.

  • Perform field validations to ensure the accuracy of technical documents.

  • Manage project deliverables, including cost estimates, schedules, and budget stewardship.

  • Coordinate work with other engineering departments based on scope and responsibilities.

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)

  • Available to begin work in May 2025.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Adaptable in fast-paced environments.

  • Sufficient organization and task-management skills.

  • Excellent Microsoft Suite skills is considered an asset.

  • Experience with Bluebeam and SAP are considered assets.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

Education

  • Must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work term.

  • Candidates currently enrolled in either a Masters or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered.

  • Preference will be given to students with a minimum of two year's education in engineering.

  • New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.

Working Conditions

  • May include frequency of travel, sitting, standing, computer work, lifting, driving, working at site, etc.

Safety Sensitive

  • This may be a safety-sensitive role, and you will also be required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during required work hours. Furthermore, you will also be required to pass the pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.

  • Safety sensitive positions require the operation of a motor vehicle, applicants are asked to provide a recent (i.e., issued within the previous 4 weeks) original driver is abstract, for the preceding 5-year period, if offered the position. A valid Canadian class 5 Driver's License with no restrictions (i.e., non GDL) is a requirement for this role.
