Position Title: Blade Sharpener

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time ​

Summary: Responsible for maintaining adequate blade stock for both water and mechanical cutting on both fry line and specialty line. They will also be viewed as an area champion and support for all departments in training, safety, and production requirements as needed.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Sharpen and maintain inventory of cutter blades needed for production

  • Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness in their assigned area

  • Follow all GMP's, Global BOPs, and Safety processes

  • Take an active role in the development in cutter deck operations by being knowledgeable and supportive in the area

  • Manage costs of blades, work to reduce costs associated with the blade room, stay mindful of budget and inform Supervisor if there are discrepancies or call outs

  • All other duties as assigned by the Shift Manager

  • Be an active member in change management for the betterment of the facility

  • Active member of committees and teams (IE JHSC, Ergonomics, and SUM Team)

  • Creation and development of policies and procedures for their area as well as the entire facility

  • Boil out participation is required for this position.

  • Assist the cutter deck operator in mechanical cutter changeovers and water gun changeovers when required.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Competencies)

  • High School Graduate

  • Fine attention to detail

  • Proven effective time management skills

  • Thorough understanding of the manufacturing process

  • Operation of sharpener, grinder, and other various equipment used in sharpening process

  • Proven ability to work independently and complete all tasks on a day-to-day basis

  • Able to prioritize and complete tasks with a keen sense of urgency

  • Excellent communication skills including verbal and written as well as effective presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills are required, particularly with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams and Outlook)

  • Shift schedule may be subject to change.

  • Must have a proven history of safe work habits.

  • Effective written, oral, mathematical and interpersonal skills.

  • Adheres to all Company rules, regulations and policies and all relevant rules, regulations and policies.

Required Length, Type of Experience & Licenses (if applicable)

  • Experienced with the safe handling of chemicals in accordance with WHMIS.

  • Mechanically inclined and willing to participate in maintenance of equipment

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in a high humidity, high temperature work environment

  • Physically capable of performing job duties (e.g., lifting 40 - 50 lbs as part of your daily routine)
