About the role.

McCain Foods (Canada) is currently seeking an Engineering and Maintenance Manager for our Coaldale complex. Reporting to the Plant Managers, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and utilities of all buildings, equipment and property owned by McCain Foods that fall under the control of McCain Foods (Coaldale Potato). Design, develop, and manage mechanical processes, conveyance and pumping systems including service generation and distribution, for plant operations and expansions using state-of-the-art technologies. This position is required to be on-site.

Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the development of new installation techniques and standards.
  • Conduct employee appraisals and evaluations.
  • Develop or revise standard operational and working practices.
  • Develop, plan, and administer departmental budget.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and training of new employees.
  • Evaluate new process technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
  • Fills in for maintenance manager and environmental supervisor in their absence.
  • Implement McCain Driving Impact (MDI) and Lean Manufacturing practices relative to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and People (SQCDP).
  • Interface with engineers to define project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards.
  • Oversee the design and review of equipment and systems using corporate standards.
  • Acquire and negotiate project contractor bids.
  • Manage capital projects to meet deadlines and budgets. Identify and effectively utilize project resources.
  • Manage release of design input to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers, etc.).
  • Manage technical documents provided by suppliers.
  • Manage the resolution of technical issues identified by suppliers.
  • Perform supplier site visits to ensure compatibility of equipment designs with current plant configurations.
  • Play a coordination role for fire and safety processes. This will require liaison between Insurance brokers, carriers, facility staff and Finance department staff.
  • Prepare project tender documents.
  • Produce site visit reports, contractor job meeting minutes, project material listings, purchase orders, installation schedules and preparation of any other documentation relating to installation of systems.
  • Work with finance, production, and safety to develop justifications for capital projects and prepare the Request for Expenditure Authorization (REA) in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Provide technical assistance to processing facilities, to improve quality and efficiency.

• Other projects/duties as assigned or needed.

Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • 5 years leading teams and mentoring supervisors
  • 5 years of progressive engineering experience with a minimum of 2 years directly related to food processing
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Sound fact-based decision making and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering results and resolving day to day operational challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and successfully lead projects/work teams of up to 150 people
  • Adaptable and flexible team player who is a champion of change
  • Skilled in developing and executing strategic site plan
