As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands-on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help inspire and train current and future chemical engineering technologists and become part of Canada’s leading polytechnic. The Chemical Engineering Technology program is designed to prepare students with the hands-on skills and knowledge in basic design calculations, equipment operations and troubleshooting, and technology for processing raw material into products, including petrochemical, pipeline, oil and gas industries. The Chemical Engineering Technology program has an opening for a temporary part-time instructor.
The successful candidate will be an energetic and empathetic leader of students with a commitment to student motivation and achievement utilizing their outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience delivering adult education will be a strong asset. A comfort level with various computer programs and systems as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be critical to success. The successful candidate will have experience in environmental engineering or technology pertaining to methods and equipment for preventing, reducing, and eliminating the emission of pollutants in the processing industry. Responsibilities include curriculum development and delivery, evaluation and maintenance of student progress and records as well as student support and program operational activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in classroom and laboratory settings
Organizing and supervising practical assignments
Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials
Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment
Evaluate the learning process and provide meaningful feedback to students
Respond to student issues
Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications, and program promotions
Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues
Actively participate in the strategies of NAIT’s Academic Model as identified by the institute
Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvement
Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities
Participate in course reviews, program reviews and curriculum development
Maintain contact with relevant industries
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills
A strong desire to help students succeed
Excellent communication skills
Desire to utilize simulator-based training aids
Qualifications:
A technology diploma or degree in Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering with industry experience is required; degree preferred
Experience in interpretation and application of environmental legislation and protection applicable to industrial application
Experience in evaluation and review of environmental impacts including air, water, ground water and soil, prevention, measurement and calculations and remediation methods
Post-secondary teaching and/or leadership experience is considered an asset
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $99/Scheduled Instruction Hour. (Classification – Instructor Casual Credit).
All casual instructor assignments are covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement.
