Description

The Community Ministries Worker provides services to family services clients in a compassionate and caring manner, in accordance with the Mission Vision and Values of The Salvation Army.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Crossroads Community Church Programming

· Assist with ensuring that ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and applied to all outreach program initiatives and where applicable link community members to the church family and church programs wherever possible.

· Work in partnership and with oversight from the Community & Family Services Coordinator and Corps Officer and assist them in planning and implementation of programming for individuals, families, and children and youth to make a positive impact on community (Christmas distribution, summer camping ministry, food banks, children and youth programming, Pathway of Hope, new programs, etc.). May support frontline initial intake of all Family Service clients, assess client needs in consultation with the Community & Family Services Coordinator and/or Corps Officer, and provide services to meet client needs (related to food bank and youth needs) or refer clients to other appropriate community agencies (related to food bank and youth needs).

· Ensure appropriate decanting of bulk food donations into predetermined volumes for distribution to clients.

· Coordinate work of Family service Volunteers as directed by Community and Family Services Coordinator and Corps Officer.

· Attend community meetings on behalf of Family Services program as directed.

· Assist with sharing pantry/bread pantry, Christmas programs and special events, etc.

· Support the Community & Family Services Coordinator and/or Corps Officer in interactions with community partners as necessary to assist in seeking resources and services for outreach programs.

· Demonstrate keen interest in connecting people and families to Edmonton Crossroads Community Church through outreach programs and relationship building.

Administration

· Prepare and maintain written records/logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.

· Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate records of client and participant information on Link2Feed.

· Assist in the maintenance of volunteer files and statistical records as directed.

· Participate in the implementation of policies and procedures for specific programming.

Communication

· Communicate in an empathetic manner with congregants, families, and staff.

· Inform the Corps Officer and Community and Family Services Coordinator regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.

Health and Safety

· Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).

· Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.

· Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a 2-year Community College diploma or certificate.
  • Education in the field of Social Services or Psychology is an asset.
  • Education or training in the area of addictions is an asset.
  • Education or training in the area of trauma is an asset.
  • Education or training in the area of grief is an asset.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Safe Food Handlers Certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons, individuals with mental health and addiction issues and a variety of social service programs.
  • Participate in visioning and creating programs and resources to address emerging needs and gaps in the community.
  • Understanding of children and youth, and associated needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with the marginalized.
  • Respect and understanding in working with different cultures and ethnicities.
  • Valid Alberta Class "5" Driver's License; personal vehicle and insurance, and a current copy of a Driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment

  • Understand, support and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Doctrines, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and participate as an active team member in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.

  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training
