About the Role

NAIT is seeking a Director of Facilities Management to lead the operational management and continuous improvement of its facilities. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Facilities Management and Development, the Director of Facilities Management plays a vital role in the operation and maintenance of all our campuses. This leadership position is responsible for the operational management, and continuous improvement of NAIT's facilities.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader with proven experience in facilities management, a track record of developing and implementing proactive maintenance strategies, and a commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. They will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to look at the big picture while being proactive in identifying and addressing potential challenges. This role requires working closely with diverse stakeholders to ensure that NAIT's facilities meet the needs of the community.

In addition, Facilities Management supports the planning and development of the major maintenance program by providing input on facilities condition, deterioration rates and risks and functional impacts of building systems failure. This input is also key in developing funding requests for major maintenance and renewal. An important requirement of this position and the staff in the section is to be sensitive to the needs and concerns of the NAIT community and to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in facilities management, strong leadership and communication skills, and knowledge of building maintenance and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Facilities Management team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Develop and implement comprehensive facilities management plans that align with NAIT's strategic goals and priorities.

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the daily operations of the department, including maintenance, repairs, renovations, and construction projects. Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services while adhering to safety regulations and industry best practices.

  • Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, optimize resource allocation, and implement cost-effective solutions to maximize operational efficiency.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Effectively communicate facilities-related information and address concerns in a timely and professional manner.

  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability: Champion sustainability initiatives and implement environmentally responsible practices across all facilities management operations. Reduce energy consumption and champion NAIT's carbon footprint reduction.

  • Performance Measurement: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness and efficiency of facilities management operations. Analyze data and produce reports to identify areas for improvement.

  • Contract Management: Effectively manage contracts with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal service delivery and cost-effectiveness.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans for the facilities, ensuring the safety and security of occupants during unforeseen events. Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to facilities and operations.

Skills & Abilities:

  • A degree or diploma in a related field such as engineering, architecture, or facilities management. A relevant professional designation (e.g., CFM, P.Eng) would be considered an asset.

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a diverse team of facilities professionals.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic facilities management plans.

  • Strong financial acumen and experience in managing budgets and resources.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and sustainable work environment.

  • Proven experience in change management, risk management and strategic planning and people management.

  • Progressive experience large complex organization with a diverse building portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, facilities management or related field required.

  • Certification / license as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist.

  • Knowledge of Facility Management, Building Automation Systems, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems, Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Asbestos Management.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: $130,330.72 - $172,669.12 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
