About the Role

As an Advisor for Field Health & Safety at ATCO, you play a crucial role in nurturing a culture of safety across the company. This position involves providing leadership, guidance, and expert advice on health and safety practices, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing our Health & Safety Management System (HSMS). You will be instrumental in fostering continuous improvement in safety performance, conducting site visits, and leading safety audits and inspections.

What You'll Do:

  • Actively collaborate with operational and office personnel to implement and adhere to Health and Safety management programs, enhancing ATCO's overall safety culture.
  • Offer expert advice on compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and serve as a subject matter expert on ATCO's Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site visits and safety audits across various locations within your assigned area, ensuring compliance and addressing any safety concerns.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, providing detailed analysis and promoting corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of the contractor management program and drive safety initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of Health and Safety training programs, enhancing the knowledge and skills of ATCO employees and contractors.
  • Facilitate and support the Worksite Joint Health and Safety Committees, ensuring active participation and compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage and improve ATCO's Incident Management System (IMS) and ensure accurate incident reporting and follow-up.
  • Participate in emergency management and business continuity planning, ensuring preparedness and effective response to safety incidents.

What you Bring:

  • Professional designation in Health and Safety (e.g., CRSP, CRST, CHSC) or eligibility to achieve such certification within a designated period.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, Diploma, or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a health and safety role within the utilities sector or related industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OHS Act/Regulations/Code, CSA Standards, and other relevant legislative requirements.
  • Experience with safety inspections, hazard analysis, and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with strong administrative and reporting skills.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license and be willing to travel and perform on-call duties as needed.
