Reporting to the Team Lead, Corporate Wellness, the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator acts as an internal resource in all aspects of health, safety, and environmental related matters. Working closely with our Corporate Wellness, Facilities Services, Corporate Security teams and the Health & Safety committee members and provides input into the design and implementation of organization wide programs.

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensures the organization is meeting Legislated health, safety, and environmental requirements by:
    • Coordinating safety inspections and manages the annual PIR audit.
    • Leading the PIR internal maintenance audit- every first and second year and arranging and coordinating all aspects of the external PIR audit every third year.
    • Ensuring all workplace accidents/incidents and near misses are investigated and evaluate for root cause analysis and trends analysis.
    • Manages hazard identification, assessment, and control.
    • Quarterly workplace inspections from training to completion, including trends analysis.
    • Manages the accident and incident investigation process and coordinates involvement from other areas.
  • Coordinates the implementation of any opportunities for improvement from the PIR audit.
  • Manages the Emergency Response Officer and Emergency Floor Coordinator programs, including recruitments and one on one training sessions.
  • Provides reporting to track response procedures to workplace incidents, inspections and prevention based activities, including maintaining documents and updating relevant databases.
  • Trains all new staff on the WCB Health, Safety & Wellness program at the Contractor and New Employee Orientations and coordinates corporate wide safety and environmental training activities.
  • Assists in the administration and implementation of new programs, the development of related guidelines and communication plans.
  • Provides research on industry best practices and safe work procedures and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides information, solicits feedback, and actions safety and environmental issues and provides follow-up as required.
  • Active member on the Corporate Health, Safety & Wellness Advisory Committee while acting as a key resource for individual department Health & Safety Committees.
  • Resolves routine problems related to health, safety, and environmental principles and assessing challenges that are urgent, requires more creative solutions and notification to appropriate teams.

Your experience and skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of health, safety, and environmental experience with exposure to both an office and industrial based environment
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field and completion of an Occupational Health & Safety Certificate, CRSP designation or equivalent.
  • Certified in Emergency First Aid & AED and CPR.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
  • Training and experience with incident/accident reporting and workplace investigation.
  • Ability to deal with all customers both internally and externally in friendly and diplomatic manner, and with the utmost respect for confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver presentations to all levels of the organization.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with contractors while on WCB premises with the ability to manage and stop unsafe work practices or non-compliance to all workplace health and safety regulatory agencies.
  • External relationships with other health, safety and environmental professionals and routine contact with personnel from regulatory agencies such as Workplace Health & Safety, Alberta Environment
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be well organized, efficient, supportive, and able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Experience in the operations of various software programs including MS Office Suite, Windows, and Lotus Notes

Salary: $71,502.00 to $84,103.00 CAD per annum (Pay Grade 10)
