The Opportunity: McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Highways Construction Supervisor/ Inspector to join our team based in Edmonton, AB. In this role, you will be integral to expansion of our field construction services across a range of projects ranging from highways, urban streetscapes to remote resource roads. Working closely with our Construction and/or Project Managers, you will be the field lead on the projects to offer professional services and insight. What You’ll Be Doing:
Responsible for contract administration and provide on-site construction supervision /inspections
Monitoring the quality, quantity and progress of construction activities
Author daily inspection reports, prepare monthly progress payments and other associated Contract Administration tasks
Very familiar with construction specifications, requirements and progress reporting
Review materials testing results as required and communicate to Project Managers, Contractors and Agencies related to the project.
Review contractor’s submissions and provide recommendations
Prepare and chair on site progress meetings with clients, contractors and their sub-contractors
Responsible for identifying the required resources and assigning individual responsibilities on site
Understand the hazards and safe work procedures for each task and inspection location
Report inspection issues to senior supervisor
Understand, commit to, and fulfill responsibilities under the McElhanney Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems
Provide mentorship and leadership to junior or support staff.

What You’ll Bring:
Minimum of 7 years of field /construction related experience with preference given to Alberta Transportation experience along with other Provincial project experience.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field along with specific road building experience will be considered.
Ability to work remotely with long hours: 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, with fatigue relief as required by relevant Regulations.
Willingness to commit to construction projects for the duration of the project
Must have experience with municipal, highways, bridge, construction projects; materials testing and/or survey experience is an asset
Ability to foresee potential issues and problems so these items can be addressed and resolved
Exceptional organization and follow-up skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, meticulous note keeping
Clean driving record and the ability to comply with client-driven D&A testing requirements
