Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Service Design position in Edmonton, AB from May - August 2025

Job Summary

The Intern, Service Design is responsible for enhancing service design and dimensional tools to better support operational client needs. The role allows the selected individual to explore the many dimensions of the service design and dimensional operating team, learn and apply different business analysis concepts and use their computer skills to improve CN's Service Design dashboards. During the internship, the Senior Manager, Service Design provides guidance and expertise to ensure successful implementation of these projects. The incumbent uses their initiative and communication skills and drives for continuous improvement to ensure the project achieves the agreed-upon milestones.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and build of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) dashboards in Power BI and Tableau
  • Collaborate with the different Service Design Managers to enhance existing tools
  • Collect the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) data from multiple platforms for dashboarding and Power BI
  • Participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to aid in project development, performance evaluation, and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal teams and clients
  • Engage in cross-functional teamwork, sharing insights, and proposing innovative solutions to address challenges
  • Analyze traffic flows to minimize transit times
  • Create or modify Train Service Plans in Service Reliability Systems (SRS)
  • Evaluate network obstruction data
  • Validate and organize network routing paths
  • Perform daily operational tasks to support the department

Requirements

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel)
  • Looks for opportunities for continuous improvement and takes initiative
  • Proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to approach challenges creatively
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Initiative and eagerness to learn from industry professionals and contribute to projects
  • Able to perform well working independently as well as small team collaboration
  • Able to organize priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of SharePoint, Power BI, Tableau*

Education

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Information and Technology Management, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
