Reporting to the CNC Supervisor, the Machinist will set up and operate all conventional machines in accordance with work order requirements.

Key position functions include:

  • Ensure processes and machine operations are performed in accordance with safety regulations and are carried out in a conscientious manner.
  • Operate machines by setting up and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks (where applicable), tools, attachments, collets, bushings, gears, stops and indicating devices.
  • Calculate requirements, using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for practical problems such as computing dimensions, laying out work, and setting up machine tools
  • Maintain specifications by monitoring the drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools.
  • Maintain machines, equipment and workstations to an acceptable Stream-Flo standard of cleanliness.
  • Maintain equipment by preforming preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; detecting and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of productivity and efficiency.
  • Work in conjunction with Industrial Engineering to achieve and maintain best practices, including the maintenance of tooling and fixture inventory.
  • Responsible to ensure product quality meets drawing specifications.
  • Stamp machinist's ID on all pieces, and re-stamp and/or mark heat numbers on pieces when heat numbers have been removed by machining.
  • Identify machining non-conformances by separation and/or marking.
  • Follow work order and process traveller requirements and fill out job sheets or record time using ERP system.
  • Report all machine, crane, and hoist problems in the proper maintenance logs and notify Maintenance Department and/or lead hand/supervisor of a down time situation.
  • Ensure compliance with Stream-Flo Group Principles in terms of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental regulations or policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards/procedures.
  • Other duties assigned by lead hand/supervisor.

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following qualifications:

  • Alberta Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent with the Interprovincial Red Seal.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant machining experience.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work with minimum supervision.
  • Training frequency: on-going/as needed.
  • Minimum education requirement: trade certificate as noted above.
