Reporting to the Technician Supervisor, this position provides support to the programs within the School of Transportation. This position is responsible for general maintenance and repair of shop related equipment. This work will also include ensuring the work areas are in clean, workable, safe conditions, and sufficiently stocked with consumable products. The purpose of the work is to support instructional staff, program support staff such as stock keepers, mechanics, Educational Laboratory Techs, and other Maintenance Service Workers within the Transportation department.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties will include but are not limited to material handling and distribution, stocking inventory
Maintaining security of shop/lab and supplies
Operating and monitoring numerous types of mechanical equipment used in the preparation of materials for shops and labs such as: Hoists, pallet jack, Skid steer, car haulers, winches and forklift operation.
Able to use utility trailers or car haulers in a safe effective manor, load cars and secure materials properly
Bringing in, setting up and removing various teaching aides for the different programs
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently or in a team setting. Also, must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work
Have good working knowledge of hand tools
Have strong mechanical aptitude
Able to climb stairs frequently during the day
Ability to perform heavy physical work; able to lift 50 lbs regularly
Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 lbs and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment
Basic computer skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to be innovative when solving problems
Ability to travel between multiple campuses as required
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade twelve
Related trades certificate a strong asset
A valid class 5 driver's license
Ability to operate a forklift and expected to obtain relevant forklift training if not already certified
Experience in plumbing, electrical, and/or welding. Heavy Equipment service trades would be an asset
Equivalencies may be considered
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $48,257.04 - $60,364.46 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Maintenance Service Worker ll).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
