Reporting to the Technician Supervisor, this position provides support to the programs within the Construction Trades and Technology portfolio in the School of Construction and Building Sciences. This position is responsible for general maintenance and repair of shop related equipment, possibly including fabrication of parts and devices. This work will also include ensuring the work areas are in clean, workable, safe conditions, and sufficiently stocked with consumable products. The purpose of the work is to support instructional staff, program support staff such as stock keepers, mechanics, Educational Laboratory Techs, and other Maintenance Service Workers within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties will include but are not limited to material handling and distribution, stocking inventory
Maintaining security of shop/lab and supplies
Fabricating specialized items that may involve the use of skills such as woodworking tools and electrical
Operating and monitoring numerous types of mechanical equipment used in the preparation of materials for shops and labs (e.x. forklift operation)
Bringing in, setting up and removing various teaching aides for the different programs
Other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to work independently or in a team setting
Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work
Able to climb stairs frequently during the day
Ability to perform heavy physical work; able to lift 50 lbs regularly
Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 lbs and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment
Basic computer skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to be innovative when solving problems
Ability to travel between multiple campuses as required
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade twelve
Related trades certificate a strong asset
Experience with 3D printing and advanced manufacturing skills
Experience working with CAD software
A valid class 5 driver's license
Ability to operate a forklift and expected to obtain relevant forklift training if not already certified
Experience in machining, plumbing, electrical, welding, and/or automotive service trades would be an asset
Equivalencies may be considered
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $48,257.04 - $60,364.46 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Maintenance Service Worker II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
