WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Planning Forester will work with Forsite's senior planners and analysts to deliver strategic, tactical and operational planning projects for our clients. You should have a demonstrated problem-solving ability, strong written and oral communications skills, and an ability to develop realistic plans within complex and challenging stewardship situations.

Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, the potential types of projects the role will be involved in may include forest operational planning, field operations, fibre analyses, forest health planning, wildfire risk management, community wildfire protection and fuel management planning and implementation, and stakeholder engagement.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A safety conscious attitude;
  • Post-secondary education within natural resources management;
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an RPF or RPFT with the AAFMP;
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in the forest sector, ideally involving operational forest development, plan preparation and submissions, timber supply, forest management planning and forest inventory;
  • Experience in wildfire risk and fuels management, planning process facilitation, and project management are an asset;
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in a range of forestry related software, ESRI - GIS software suite, and Microsoft Office Suite; and
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record.

  • Enthusiastic with a passion for data management, project management, and project delivery;
  • Professional with a friendly and courteous manner, being service and team oriented;
  • Able to work both independently under limited direct supervision as well as in a project team environment;
  • Flexible with strong organizational and time management skills to with ability to work under pressure to meet targets; and
  • Able to work with excellent attention to detail with work accuracy and quality.
  • The ideal candidate may have the following: Masters in forest management or similar program, climate vulnerability assessment training, or other specialized skills that provide value to our clients.
