About this opportunity:
Cenovus is looking for a Lead Operator in Edson to manage day-to-day field operations and provide support during turnarounds and special projects. Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, this role focuses on optimizing well performance, coordinating maintenance activities, and troubleshooting equipment to meet production targets. The Lead Operator will also play a key role in mentoring field staff, ensuring safe operations, and working closely with various teams to support smooth, efficient operations aligned with Cenovus's standards.

This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 10 hours per day, 4 days on, 3 days off
What you'll do:
Provide operational coverage as required, including acting as the Operations Coordinator to ensure seamless field management and production continuity
Coordinate daily operations and maintenance of the Ansell/Galloway fields, managing turnarounds, regular operations, and production upsets
Lead well reactivations, startups, optimization, reconfigurations, facility layups, and pipeline inspections to maximize production efficiency
Foster a collaborative environment within field operations by providing coaching, mentorship, and guidance to ensure safe and effective work practices
Complete monthly assurance activities, monitor daily production, and oversee sampling and testing to maintain accurate area operations records
Troubleshoot area-specific equipment to enhance performance and meet production targets in line with Cenovus guidelines
Verify the accuracy of operational records, including volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and reports, and deliver field production updates to Leadership and authorized personnel
Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Asset Integrity, and external services to manage activities related to turnarounds, commissioning, and startup projects
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
8+ years of relevant industry experience
3+ years conventional oil and gas field and facility operations experience
Strong coaching and mentoring skills required
Strong decision making and troubleshooting skills, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
