At SMS Equipment, our Safety Trainers support SMS Equipment's safety goals by understanding its unique requirements and implementing programs that meet customer, OHSE, and regulatory standards. The Trainer also develops and delivers training materials to enhance the company's safety culture and initiatives. This position is based in Fort McMurray, AB.

The shift rotation for this position is 5x2.

The salary for this position is $100,000 - $120,000 dependent on experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain in-depth safety knowledge. Keep up to date with safety legislative requirements and certifications. Coordinate with OHSE Advisors to ensure all end-users exercise safe procedures and practices and collaborate with the business to ensure new requirements are met prior to effective date.

  • Identify training and development needs of employees. Assemble, coordinate, prepare and teach specific training courses, workshops and seminars to meet development needs. Determine training and development costs and benefits while controlling costs against budgets. Work with external training consultants and internal resources to identify course objectives and content. Assess application of learning to job performance and recommend future training and development.

  • Administrative functions related to employee certificates. Requests course kits from ESC proactively and creates and submits certificates to employees, ESC, and corporate training group. Generates and analyzes reports to assess training needs and collaborates with internal stakeholders

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Train the Trainer certification for relevant Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements and OSSA and ESC approved safety training courses. Other requirements include:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in developing and facilitating industry specific safety training courses.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a coaching and mentoring role with a strong focus on safety
  • Sound understanding of the mining and construction industry.
  • Intermediate computer skills with proficiency Microsoft Office applications.
  • Energy Safety Canada training is an asset.
  • Ability to coach and train employees at all levels in a team environment using the knowledge of Adult Learning theory and methodology.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate information and processes.
  • High attention to detail and compliance.
  • Ability to assess whether learning outcomes have been achieved by the learners.
