We are seeking a Fire Codes Specialist to join our Emergency Services and Security team at our Joffre Site, located in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. This role reports to the Emergency Services and Security Coordinator and will work alongside technicians within the department as well as in the various units across site to ensure the regulatory requirements within the National Fire Code - Alberta Edition are met. This position is responsible for the continuity of the site's Quality Management Plan in the fire discipline. It is also responsible for fixed fire suppression systems, communication and security systems and ensures that they are inspected, tested and maintained as per regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining regulatory compliance and participates in numerous internal and external audits.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Collaborate with the on-shift full time emergency responders, site leadership, relevant contractors, risk management/insurers and the site maintenance teams to maintain equipment in a state of constant emergency preparedness
  • Provide emergency response support
  • Provide expertise in areas of emergency planning and development and management of the emergency response plan
  • Initiate changes and secure leadership support to address any gaps in emergency systems through either capital changes (PD&I Process) or contract support
  • Provide leadership and continuity for Alberta Fire Codes across the site, serving as the primary contact for the Safety Codes Council and the Fire Commissioner's Office regarding fire reports, inspections and fire investigation
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with external organizations and business groups on site
  • Maintain the site ER building coordinator program

What We Are Looking For:

The successful candidate will possess the following requirements to be considered:

  • NFPA 1001 level 2
  • NFPA 1031 Proboard / IFSAC seal, as a level B1 or B2 Fire Safety Codes Officer in Alberta
  • NFPA 1033 Proboard / IFSAC seal, as a level C1 or C2 fire investigator in Alberta
  • Three (3) plus years of direct related experience in a fire code compliance role
  • A valid class 3 and 4 Alberta driver's license with Q endorsement
  • Medical training as an Emergency Medical Responder or higher with registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics is strongly preferred or will be required to achieve following hire
  • Ability to obtain a security license in Alberta

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units.
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
