NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

We are seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer to join our Rotating Equipment Team at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. Reporting to the Rotating Equipment Team Leader, you will provide plant reliability and maintenance engineering functions for rotating equipment in Manufacturing West (MW). The primary objective of the role is to deliver equipment reliability and achieve leading performance in plant availability & maintenance costs.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Develop, modify and implement equipment strategies and maintenance plans in SAP based on the maintenance strategy development process
  • Identify discipline-specific risks, threats and opportunities affecting safe, reliable and competitive operations that need resolution
  • Lead, participate in, and support FMEA, RCFA, RBI and RAM processes.
  • Influence and educate stakeholders on risks ensuring clear understanding within the organization
  • Provide technical support for projects as the unit subject matter expert, clearly defining the impact of risks on the asset (business case development) and reviewing and supporting technical decisions across Manufacturing West.
  • Analyze and interpret condition monitoring data and reports and develop strategies to address any identified or impending issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the discipline teams ensuring the NOVA technical teams share learnings within discipline networks and across our organization through the Center of Excellence.
  • Direct technical leadership and support troubleshooting of equipment failures to determine root causes and identify actions to prevent reoccurrence:
    • Provide expertise and advice on critical or complex equipment issues.
    • Provide technical approval for new or changing equipment specifications.
    • Develop and review work scope for unit outages and major turnarounds.
    • Influence maintenance, operational and technical decisions by representing the impacts to equipment reliability.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of maintenance and/or reliability engineering experience in an industrial facility
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or an equivalent Canadian engineering governing body with the ability to become registered with APEGA is required
  • Experience in overhauls and refurbishment of centrifugal pumps, compressors, turbines, gear reducers, blowers and associated equipment will be complemented by your familiarity with applicable industrial (API/ANSI) codes and standards related to all classes of rotating equipment.
  • Working experience with Reliability Centre Maintenance practices, Root Cause Failure Analysis or Lean Sigma (Six Sigma)
  • Experience with Turbo Machinery would be considered an asset
  • ISO CAT Ill/IV certification in vibration analysis would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic work environment with Operations, Maintenance, and technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change through continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated technical and advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 10% travel
  • Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
  • Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
  • Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
  • In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
