The Raw Procurement Manager is responsible for all aspects of the raw material (potato) requirements for Cavendish Farms.

This position reports to the Director of Operations. The position requires interaction with Alberta potato growers, production staff, four direct reports, Potato Growers of Alberta, both provincial and federal agriculture services, growers and grower organizations outside the province of Alberta, private agronomists, agriculture chemical sales staff, as well as international and domestic sales personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Visit growers to maintain strong business relationships. Address any issues they may have, monitor potato storages for quality, monitor fields.
  • Work closely with Field Superintendent to assess grower issues, potato requirements and organize potato deliveries.
  • Prepare monthly summary comparing finished pounds to pack and potatoes remaining. Shortages of raw material are addressed with Director of Operations and may include purchases from various locations outside Alberta.
  • Responsible for obtaining lowest cost price raw material.
  • Maintain and enhance grower relationships. Participate in Potato Growers of Alberta yearly meeting, etc.
  • Provide timely data on potato disposition to Cavendish Farms Management team.
  • Oversee full time Field Superintendent, Potato Agronomist, and Potato Receiving operation.
  • Work very closely with Production staff to determine their needs and balance to potatoes
  • Act as a resource for Cavendish management, salespeople and growers for potato information.
  • Conduct potato presentation outlining advantages of potatoes grown in Alberta versus other growing regions to existing and potential french fry customers. Conduct tours to grower farms for customers where they meet growers and see various potato production operations.
  • Assist in pricing negotiations for raw material. Sign contracts with growers for potato deliveries.
  • Work closely with government personnel to resolve issues and stay on top of opportunities for potatoes including assessment of new varieties, technology etc.
  • Attend meetings, trade shows, and seminars to constantly stay informed of new potato technology and innovations.
  • Preparation and administer a yearly budget for Field operations.
  • Responsible for monitoring grading of raw material to ensure Cavendish raw material specifications are applied fairly to growers and that prices paid for raw material reflect quality received at the plant.
  • Follow Food and Health Safety policy.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong general potato knowledge.
  • Ability to network with other growing areas.
  • Degree or Diploma in an agriculture or Horticulture or related experience.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with others.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Outlook
