Senior Equipment Operator

Term of Employment:

Full-Time, Continuing

Rate of Pay:

Band 5: $34.02 - $37.20 per hour (Subject to CUPE 1015 Agreement)

Location:

Landfill

Duties:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Landfill, the Senior Equipment Operator will safely operate and perform routine preventive maintenance on all applicable heavy equipment including but not limited to: landfill compactor, bulldozer, loader, and dump truck.

Equipment Operation:

  • Garbage compaction.
  • Moving wind screens and signs.
  • Preventive maintenance and inspection of equipment.
  • Maintain necessary records (e.g. daily cover and material usage, equipment daily inspection, random load visual inspection report and other work-related documents).
  • Fill-out Equipment Maintenance Form for equipment service.
  • Maintain landfill tipping/working face, asbestos area, wet cells, recycling area and roads.
  • Manage stockpiles of wood, dirt, metal, concrete and snow.
  • Load and haul dirt, wood chips, crushed concrete and snow
  • Perform earth works (e.g. build berms/roads, cut and fill of slope and ditches, applying daily and intermediate cover)
  • Fill-out Pre-job, Hazard Identification, Assessment and Control, and conduct regular facility inspection.
  • Assist municipal workers on setting up pumps, waste screening, and handling special waste.
  • Provide coverage for Municipal Worker 2.
  • Provide training to Municipal Workers on operation of heavy equipment.
  • Ensure proper storage of equipment tools and supplies.
  • And other assigned duties.

Schedule:

Standard hours are Monday-Friday

Qualifications:

  • Basic Landfill Operator Certification is required
  • Minimum 2 years of prior experience with operating heavy equipment (Dump Truck, Loader, Dozer and Landfill Compactor).
  • Be able to lift 20kg
  • Landfill operation experience is an asset
  • Responsible, reliable and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; both verbal and written to interpret data and guide customers to physical locations and provide clear direction on how to properly dispose of their waste.
  • Possess a high standard of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions would be an asset
  • A valid Class 3 Driver's License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver's Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
