The Opportunity

We are seeking a Manager, Construction Services West (CSW) to join our Canada Gas Projects Construction Services team in Spruce Grove, AB. In this role, you will oversee the Mica Link facility, test head maintenance shop and multiple field-based construction crews responsible for executing Integrity Projects across Western Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Construction Services, this position leads and develops a strong, competent, proactive, and engaged construction team.

What you'll do

The Construction Services West Leader role:

Frontline Construction Team Engagement:

  • Provide hands-on guidance, mentorship, and support to construction teams through regular site visits

  • Address pressing issues and challenges faced by frontline workers and construction managers

  • Ensure construction teams are executing work in alignment with Company policies, procedures, specifications, and standards

  • Identify and resolve safety concerns or compliance issues on the jobsite

  • Gain insights into employee morale, engagement, and overall construction execution.

Leadership and Talent Development:

  • Build a strong, diverse, and proactive team of construction professionals

  • Offer coaching, mentoring, feedback, and recognition to support the growth and development

  • Develop growth opportunities and drive staff development and succession planning initiatives to build a pipeline of future leaders

  • Empower and support frontline construction teams and test head maintenance shop personnel through visible, hands-on leadership.

Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality:

  • Demonstrate safety leadership and ensure all safety, health, environmental, and quality commitments are consistently upheld

  • Assess safety and quality performance for the work under your responsibility

  • Manage and coordinate emergency response with a requirement to respond promptly to emergency situations.

Continuous Improvement and Value Creation:

  • Identify high-value, high-impact initiatives that drive efficiency, reduce costs, and create value for the company

  • Provide strategic input and consultation on all aspects of construction for the wider organization

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and change management.

Stakeholder Management and Operational Excellence:

  • Develop and deliver presentations showcasing the effectiveness of your construction teams and test head maintenance shop.

  • Collaborate with peer to drive consistency, communication, and alignment across project teams.

  • Make high-quality, accountable decisions that deliver predictable project results.

  • Optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient planning and execution.

  • Champion the transformation of the construction culture to deliver high-quality project execution.

  • Develop and manage annual business plans/strategies, budgets, and prepare reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education (e.g., Trades Certification, Diploma, Degree)

  • An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered

  • 15 years of pipeline construction, integrity project and/or project management experience

  • Leadership in safety and change management, including employee development, performance management and team building

  • Experience leading Field-Based Construction resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of construction practices with respect to pipeline projects

  • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external partners

  • Proven experience managing project estimates, schedules and budgets.

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

  • Be available outside of standard business hours (weekends and evenings) to support ongoing construction issues and emergency support as needed

  • Travel to field sites and other company locations to engage with stakeholders and team members (up to 25% of schedule with overnight stays)
