Reporting to the Agronomy Manager, we are looking for an Agronomic Excellence Technician to be responsible of supporting the field trial activities for the Agronomic Excellence department. This involves assisting with field trial execution including seed preparation, operating commercial farm equipment to prepare land, seed, spray and harvest field trials. The technician will perform preventative maintenance on field research equipment and will assist with trial data collection and preparation for tours. The technician will be responsible for the upkeep of the facility including mowing, snow clearing and ensuring the shop is clean and organized.
Working both independently and as part of a team to assist with all tasks required to conduct field research trials.
Performing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on field research equipment, such as tractors, sprayers and combines.
Transporting equipment between sites using various trucks and trailers, including semi-trucks.
Performing work for the upkeep of the facility and yard site including mowing, snow clearing and ensuring the shop is clean and organized, at times working outside in a variety of conditions and being able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly.
Assisting with field data collection and trial site preparation for tours.
Supervising and mentoring summer associates and participating in safety related activities including asset inspections and trainings.
A diploma, or degree, in Agriculture related field, or relevant combination of education and experience.
1-3 years' experience working in agriculture field research would be an asset.
Experience operating field equipment, including seeding, spraying and harvesting field crops. Experience operating trucks and trailers.
Class 1A driver's license, or willingness to obtain one is required.
Experience in field trial data collection would be an asset.
Ability to work both independently and in a group to contribute to the targets of the department.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be flexible in daily work, skilled in time management and able to manage and understand behavior differences for success.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and work overtime during peak periods as required.
Occasional travel outside local territory required.
