Department: JUMP! Summer Programs

Location: 100 Mile House, British Columbia

Reports To: Executive Director

Preferred Start Date: December 15th, 2024 - April 15, 2025

Contract Term: 21-month contract (December 15, 2024 - September 15, 2026) with potential for extension

Eligibility: Candidates must have experience working and managing outdoor education programs in North America. Canadian citizenship is strongly preferred.

OUR VISION FOR THIS ROLE:

JUMP! is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and visionary Program Director to lead our transformative summer programs in the heart of the British Columbia wilderness. As the Program Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of JUMP! Canada, overseeing all aspects of program operations, from recruitment and training to logistics and participant experience. Your passion for outdoor education and your ability to inspire others will be essential to our continued success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management and Leadership

• Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all summer programs, including day camps, week-long camps, and specialized programs.
• Recruit, hire, and train a high-quality team of facilitators, support staff, and interns.
• Develop and implement comprehensive risk management plans to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and staff.
• Manage program budgets, including revenue generation, expense control, and financial reporting.
• Coordinate with local partners and community organizations to strengthen relationships and expand program opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including permits, licensing, and safety standards.
• Revise and update the Employee Handbook to ensure it aligns with current policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Partnership Management and Financial Oversight

• Take ownership of the budgetary aspects related to Summer Program partnerships, ensuring alignment with financial goals and organizational priorities.
• Lead the approvals process for partnerships, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.
  
  

Program Oversight and Improvement

• Provide strategic oversight of the end-to-end program management process for Summer Programs, ensuring effective planning, execution, and evaluation.
• Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize program delivery and participant experience.
  
  

Operational Management

• Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, logistics, and facility maintenance.
• Oversee the procurement and maintenance of program equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate with the JUMP! Foundation headquarters to ensure smooth communication and alignment with organizational goals.
• Manage vehicle maintenance, insurance, and driver licensing requirements.
• Handle emergency procedures and crisis management.

Business Development and Marketing

• Develop and implement effective marketing strategies to attract new participants and drive registrations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations to enhance the impact and reach of JUMP! Canada Summer Programs.
• Identify and pursue new revenue streams, such as corporate sponsorships and fundraising events.
• Represent JUMP! Canada at community events, conferences, and industry gatherings.
  

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential Qualifications:

• Proven leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, manage large-scale projects, and make strategic decisions.
• Outdoor education expertise: Significant experience in outdoor education, camp management, or a related field, including program design, logistics, and curriculum development.
• Organizational and time management: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Financial acumen: Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and strategic planning.
• Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Technical proficiency: Familiarity with relevant software and tools, such as Google Suite and project management tools.
• Physical fitness: Ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions and participate in physical activities.
• Valid driver's license: Possession of a valid Class 4 driver's license (or willingness to obtain one).
• First Aid and CPR certification: Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Commitment to sustainability: Passion for the environment and a dedication to sustainable practices.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Cultural competency: Experience working with First Nations/Indigenous communities.
• Remote work experience: Experience working in remote and wilderness environments.
• Advanced degree: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

• Remote Base Camp Living: As a program staff member, you will live and work on-site at our beautiful, remote base camp, located 20 kilometers west of 100 Mile House in the Cariboo region.
