We are currently looking to fill an exciting Full Time position as an Electronic Technician at Abbotsford Regional Hospital located in Abbotsford, B.C.

Electrician Certification will be given Preference. Additionally Steam Power Engineer level 4 or steam powered equipment service related (Sterilizers, instrument washers etc) experience will be an asset and will be highly considered.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, performs duties related to preventative maintenance and service of the sanitizing and sterilizing equipment for Central Processing Department (CPD). Maintains, modifies and/or repairs equipment controlled by electronic or computer systems as well as mechanical systems with electric, pneumatic hydraulic, vacuum, plumbing and steam systems plus other equipment such as ultrasonic washers, sterile dryers. Maintains an inventory of parts for the equipment serviced by this position.
Responsibilities

  1. Carries out preventative maintenance and service of the sanitizing and sterilizing equipment for Central Processing Department (CPD) using scheduled maintenance procedures in accordance with factory recommendations. Performs such duties as adjusting belts, chains and switches, lubricating hinges, guides, rollers, etc., rebuilding of solenoids, steam traps, pressure regulating valves (PRV) and vacuum breakers to ensure malfunctions and breakdowns are kept to a minimum. May alter machine programming to bypass a non-critical function of a machine in the event that the malfunctioning part is not in inventory. Coordinates service and shutdown of a machine ensuring the least impact to the day to day operations.
  2. Performs diagnostics, identifies problems, and repairs equipment controlled by electronic or computer systems as well as mechanical systems with electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, plumbing and steam systems using analytical skills and performing duties such as adjusting, calibrating, replacing or rebuilding components, repairing and adjusting electronic circuit boards to ensure an expeditious repair of equipment.
  3. Installs and performs electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment such as washers, ultrasonic washers, sterilizers and sterile dryers by replacing and/or repairing items such as drive units, control valves, changing seals and bearings, and installing water lines and drains as it relates to the function of the machine.
  4. Carries out preventative maintenance and service to the Operating Room by routinely inspecting equipment such as surgical lighting and tables and autoclaves by making adjustments as needed as well as performing scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is in optimum working order.
  5. Responding to calls reporting problems with the pneumatic tube system, the nurse call system and control circuitry of electric beds, food re-heating carts or other electrical patient related equipment. Performs duties requiring diagnostics and programming, identifying faults, repairing or replacing of electrical/electronic circuitry to ensure optimal operation of the systems/equipment. Repairs pneumatic tube carriers as required. Performs a routine check on the computer control system as per scheduled maintenance procedures.
  6. Maintains inventory of all required parts used for existing equipment by completing requisitions, obtaining best pricing and expediting the ordering of parts to ensure the availability of parts required to repair equipment resulting in the least down time possible.
  7. Modifies, redesigns and/or fabricates electronic equipment by analyzing needs and circumstances using methods such as developing, designing and building circuit and circuit boards to meet specific requirements of the area.
  8. Evaluates equipment for technical acceptance and safety prior to selection, monitors the installation of equipment to ensure conformance with specification.
  9. Assists other tradesmen as required by performing repairs to other building electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment and systems that relate to this position.
  10. Provides orientation and related training to designated staff by providing periodic instruction to assist other employees who may be required to service or repair a malfunctioning machine or piece of equipment.
  11. Repairs equipment such as beds, carts, and dietary equipment by preparing metal parts and surfaces, shaping, cutting, laying out, fitting and aligning metal parts using a variety of tools.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of a recognized diploma program in Electronic Technology plus three (3) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Industry and vendor equipment certifications as required.
