The Opportunity

We are seeking an Area Operations Manager to support our Coastal GasLink (CGL) Field Operations and oversee the CGL East Operations Team, based at the Wilde Lake Facility near Dawson Creek, BC.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Northern BC (Canada Gas Operations), this position leads the safe, compliant, and reliable operation and maintenance of CGL gas assets. CGL spans 670 kilometers, delivering natural gas from northeastern B.C. to the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, B.C. The pipeline route was developed with input from Indigenous communities, landowners, stakeholders, and environmental assessments, ensuring compatibility with cultural values, safety, and economic considerations.

What you will do

Operational Management

  • Lead continuous improvements in safety, cost control, reliability, and productivity
  • Ensure compliance with provincial regulations and company policies
  • Manage risks, reliability, and facility performance
  • Implement Canada Gas Operations strategies effectively
  • Optimize resource use, including people, finances, materials, and time, ensuring efficient planning and execution
  • Foster innovation, continuous improvement, and a commitment to operational excellence within the team
  • Align team efforts with corporate and field-level goals and objectives
  • Oversee Operations and Maintenance contracts, Commercial Agreements, and Asset Management Plans
  • Collaborate with peers to achieve regional objectives and company success
  • Maintain a visible and positive presence within local communities along the pipeline route
  • Manage emergency response efforts, including being on-call for emergencies

Leadership

  • Build a strong, diverse, and proactive team
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, feedback, and recognition to team members
  • Drive staff development and succession planning
  • Lead integration efforts for Coastal GasLink and other new business initiatives
  • Enhance leadership competencies and stay informed on company strategy, goals, and objectives

Collaboration and Representation

  • Work with the Canada Gas Operations Leadership Team to develop and execute strategy and business plans for Northern BC
  • Represent TC Energy/Coastal GasLink, fostering critical internal and external partnerships
  • Champion change initiatives and manage related issues

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education (e.g., Trades Certification, Diploma, Degree)
  • 10 years of relevant field operations experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Proven leadership track record, including development and execution
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and problem-solving
  • Experience in resource allocation (financial, people, procurement)
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building

Preferred Qualifications

  • Managerial or leadership experience
  • High learning agility, technical aptitude, and decision-making capability under critical situations
  • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external partners

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (a record) for review
  • Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours, call-out support and emergency support as needed
  • Travel to field sites, office locations, and community meetings to engage with stakeholders and team members (up to 30% of schedule, with overnight stays)

Relocation Eligibility: This position is eligible for our domestic relocation program.
