We are looking for Electrical Engineers to join the Asset Integrity Team at our modernized aluminum smelter, delivering business value through technical expertise and innovations. This role involves working closely with the Maintenance and Operations teams to restore, sustain, and improve safe and stable operations while monitoring and responding to key performance measures and trends.

Depending on your assigned area, you'll work with specialized overhead cranes, furnaces, conveyors, dust collectors, PLC, VFD, and control systems, and more.

Reporting to the Asset Management Superintendent and working a desirable Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Adhering to Rio Tinto Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards in problem-solving and working practices.
  • Improving equipment performance and reliability through asset management best practices.
  • Innovating in planning and executing routine and major works to add value and reduce production impact.
  • Creating detailed task and safe work procedures to ensure quality maintenance outcomes.
  • Developing and enhancing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Managing and improving material specifications, substitutions, and bills of materials.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to maintainers in the field for both immediate and long-term issues, including critical matters outside of regular office hours.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and defect elimination to identify and close performance gaps.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • At least five years of engineering experience in processing plants, mining, manufacturing, pulp and paper, or similar heavy industry environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Registration or immediate eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
    • Candidates with an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) status and relevant experience may be considered for an alternative role tailored to their qualifications and experience, with compensation aligned to reflect the adjusted scope.
  • Possess intermediate troubleshooting skills and a proactive, strategic mindset.
  • Exhibit clear, engaging interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of work management processes.

The base salary range for this role is $98,560 - $147,840 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
