We are looking for a Manager of Projects to lead a team of skilled project management professionals at the Aluminum Smelter in Kitimat, BC. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing projects valued up to $150 million annually, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, all while meeting client requirements.

Reporting to the Director Asset Integrity and working on a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Providing leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) to ensure the safety of employees and contractors, safeguard the environment, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing project implementation in alignment with approved scopes, including conducting audits and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in project management and control, securing stakeholder approvals for projects within the portfolio.
  • Monitoring and reporting on key project performance indicators to meet business objectives.
  • Developing and refining project delivery methods and standards, ensuring adherence to standardized processes, systems, and tools across projects.
  • Cultivating and maintaining an effective network of support and collaboration to drive a culture of participation and improvement.
  • Managing and developing the performance of a team of professionals, ensuring alignment with Rio Tinto's values and achievement of objectives, and providing appropriate feedback and coaching.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or extensive industry experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a production, industrial, or project management environment
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management or project controls
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams for at least 5 years
  • Effective leadership qualities: the ability to set direction, prioritize and achieve objectives, actively listen, and coach and motivate your team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Clear, concise, and tactful communication
  • A minimum of a BC Class 7 driver's license or equivalent.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience in land management and closure projects is an asset.

The base salary range for this role is $145,840 - $218,760 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
