We are looking for a Process Engineer, to join the Processing Technical Team at our modernized aluminium smelter, in Kitimat, BC. If you are a technical person with passion for metals and materials processing, this could be a role for you!

Reporting to the Casting Process Superintendent, and working Monday to Friday, you will be:

  • Adhering to Rio Tinto's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards while actively engaging in our culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
  • Monitoring and reporting on process performance, identifying, and correcting process deviations and driving process improvements
  • Leading and/or supporting projects to improve safety, process and cost performance ensuring maximum value delivery to the organization
  • Supporting the operations in day-to-day problem solving and ensuring the impact on process stability is considered in all decision making
  • Supporting operations personnel in the development and maintenance of their technical expertise, including training, and coaching where required
  • Interacting with our global network of technical experts to bring additional expertise to bear when required and to drive plant performance
  • Providing occasional technical support outside of normal work hours
  • Acting as a credible technical resource to supervisors and technicians in own sector and influencing peers and leaders by providing solid input in projects and daily activities

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Process Control, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy.
  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
  • A proven aptitude for problem-solving and statistical data analysis
  • At least two years of industrial work experience
  • Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills - ability to communicate complex technical information simply and succinctly
  • Minimum of a valid Class 7 (or equivalent) driver's license required.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodology

The base salary range for this role is $84,000 - $126,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
